Cheap chuckles is an expensive industry.
Yet we endorse it, force it, to become another opium of the masses.
We laugh at memes, without meaning.
Follow Twitter beef and wars instead of real wars.
We tweet, ‘tell me something I don’t know’. Okay.
Do you know that Muslim men, women and children are being put in concentration camps in China?
Tortured for saying Allahu Akabar, but they’re Muslim so it’s minor
Do you know that there is mass starvation in Yemen?
I know you feel sympathy but your likes and retweets won’t feed them.
Do you know hundreds of homeless people have died this winter?
In the cold. In the streets. Your streets.
Do you know that we still haven’t found our girls?
From Nigeria to America. Black girls are being stolen.
Mothers cry out, eyes red swollen.
Do you know that behind the jokes about deportation?
Lives are at stake, the government is splitting up blood relations.
Reality is a hard pill to swallow, so you mix it in sweet flavours and guzzle it down virtually. It tastes better that way? Right.

Social media influencers, influencing the easily influenced.
Misusing and abusing their platform to promote bodies that they’ve bought.
Young girls look down at their own body. Distraught.
Killing themselves trying to look like people who don’t even look like themselves.
The irony.
Because even they, don’t recognise themselves.
Behind fake smiles usually lies an inner child, addicted to likes, addicted to followers, addicted to strangers approvals.
Nobodies approval.

Endless images of people living their best life.
Whilst your life slips through your fingers.
Living behind a fluorescent screen, social media is the new supreme.
We wake up to it. Go to bed to it. Endless images blinding our third eye and you can’t deny the big lies that we all live.
So next time you pick up your phone, ask yourself.
